A teacher and coach in Rockingham County has been charged for an inappropriate relationship with a student. According to the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, on July 1, 2025, The Rockingham County School Administration notified the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office of a possible inappropriate relationship between a faculty member and a female juvenile student that resided in the county. On July 9, the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Rockingham County District Attorney’s Office, issued charges on Kenneth Jaray Butchee. 

Butchee was employed as the Reidsville Middle School track coach and substitute teacher at the time of reported allegations. Butchee has been charged with Felony Indecent Liberties with a Student, Felony Solicitation of a Minor by Computer and Felony Dissemination of Obscenity to a Minor. 

During the investigation the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office found Butchee had contact with a student starting in May of 2025 until June of 2025. It is believed that no inappropriate activity took place on school grounds during school hours and the student’s identity will not be released due to being a juvenile.

Butchee turned himself in on July 9, 2025, was taken in front of the Magistrate and was given a $100,000.00 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in Rockingham County District Court on August 5, 2025.
