On Monday, a man was sentenced for a murder that occurred in Pittsylvania County in 2023. 35-year-old Cordero Montez Rucker, of Lynchburg, was sentenced to life in prison plus eight years for the death of 28-year-old Jonathan Robertson, of Pittsville. 

Rucker was found guilty of first degree murder, shooting into an occupied dwelling and a weapons charge. 

The homicide occurred on Feb 12, 2023 at an Airbnb on Falcon Ridge Dr. near Leesville Lake. The Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene at 10:30 pm.

When officers arrived Robertson had been taken in a car to Centra Medical Center in Gretna for gunshot wounds. Robertson later died from his injuries.

Rucker was later apprehended in Lynchburg. He pleaded not guilty to the charges last year.
