Update: Danville Police have made an arrest in the shooting that occurred on Sunday morning. 26-year-old Juwan Montel Baker, of Danville, was arrested in reference to the ongoing shooting investigation on Carver Drive that resulted in the death of 22-year-old Jay’Shaun Tiejae White, of Hurt, Virginia.

Baker was a passenger in the Chrysler sedan in which White was found deceased and has been charged with the following at this time:
3 counts – Discharge a Firearm from a Moving Vehicle
3 counts – Malicious Wounding
3 counts – Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony
More arrests and charges are likely as the investigation continues.

One person was killed and four were injured during a shooting in Danville on Sunday morning. The Danville Police Department says they are investigating a homicide that occurred just before 1:30 am Sunday, in the 100 block of Carver Drive.

Officers were dispatched to the area of Carver Drive and Cheyenne Drive on reports of multiple shots fired.  Upon arrival, a Chrysler sedan was found sitting in the roadway with a deceased male victim in the front passenger seat suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body.

He was identified as Jay’Shaun Tiejae White, 22, of Hurt, Virginia.  The suspected driver of that vehicle, a 26-year-old male of Java, Virginia was located on an adjacent street suffering from a gunshot wound and he was transported by EMS to SOVAH Health Danville.

Shortly after the initial call, three additional individuals showed up at SOVAH Health Danville with injuries from the gunfire that occurred on Carver Drive and Cheyenne Drive.  Those individuals were a 31-year-old male of Danville, a 25-year-old male of Danville, and a 19-year-old female of Danville.

The female was treated and released and the three males were transferred to other medical facilities for treatment.

The initial investigation into this incident revealed that there was a large outdoor gathering on a property located just off the intersection of Carver Drive and Cheyenne Drive and that gunshots were exchanged between the Chrysler and other individuals at the gathering.

The Danville Police Department is asking that anyone who may have been present at this incident to contact them by calling 911 or patrol at 434-799-6510.
