Danville Parks and Recreation, joined by City of Danville officials, celebrated the opening of the Ballou Park Splash Pad, the city’s third and largest splash pad, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on May 23 at Ballou Park.

A group of local elementary school students attended the ceremony and became the first to enjoy the new water features, marking a joyful start to the summer season.

“The splash pad at Ballou is a significant addition to Danville’s public parks and historic Ballou Park,” said Bill Sgrinia, Director of Danville Parks and Recreation.

Being one of the oldest municipal parks in Virginia, Ballou Park spans more than 100 acres and is home to picnic shelters, sports facilities, a playground, and walking trails, making it a central hub for outdoor recreation in Danville.

The Ballou Park Splash Pad, along with the splash pads at Doyle Thomas Park and Third Avenue Park, is officially open to the public and will operate daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Labor Day. Admission is free. For more information, visit www.PlayDanvilleVA.com.
