The Danville Fire Department will host a week-long national training program for Emergency Services Honor Guard Units beginning Sunday at its headquarters station, located at 600 Lynn St.

Conducted in partnership with the National Honor Guard Academy, the intensive course will bring together Honor Guard members from fire, EMS, and law enforcement agencies across Virginia. The training is designed to enhance the ceremonial skills needed to honor fallen comrades with dignity and precision.

Throughout the week, participants will receive classroom instruction and hands-on training in drill and ceremony, flag etiquette, casket protocols, funeral planning, and the rich traditions associated with public safety honors. The training culminates in a full-scale mock funeral held at a local funeral home and cemetery, allowing students to apply their knowledge in a realistic setting.

Founded in 2006, the National Honor Guard Academy is committed to elevating the standards and professionalism of public safety honor guards through training rooted in honor, dignity, and respect.
