
A 19-year-old Halifax man is being charged with murder in the death of a 17-year-old girl in Richmond. According to WRIC, the Richmond Police Department responded to a report of a person being down at a boat landing on the James River on April 17 at 10:05 pm.
The girl was found in a wooded area and had suffered a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
19-year-old Austin Akers Reid, of Halifax, was taken into custody on charges of robbery and use of a firearm in commission of a felony in April. Reid is now also being charged with murder and concealing a body.
Police say the homicide was connected to an incident that happened the day before. The 17-year-old and Reid knew each other.
