No motion was given during a Danville City Council vote on proposed rate increases for utility services last night. No motion means the vote is registered as a no vote and there will not be any increases to utility rates.
The biennial rate study presented earlier this year to the utility commission recommended increases to align with market costs and inflation. In total the increases for the average customers would have been about $10 a month.
Because of the no vote on utility increases City Council also didn’t have to vote on funding a one year utility credit for customers with money from Caesars Virginia. The one year credit in total would have been no more than $2.4 million and would have provided a credit of about $10 per month on each customer’s utility bill.
