The Danville Fire Department has extinguished an apartment fire on Cleveland Street. The department responded to the fire on Wednesday at 8:22 am at 324 Cleveland Street.

Upon arrival crews found a two story, twenty-four unit, apartment building with heavy fire showing from a first floor apartment. Crews were met by the occupants of the fire apartment and advised that they were out and accounted for.

Two crews began fire attack while other crew searched other apartments for  victims. It was quickly determined that everyone was out of the adjoining apartments and safe.

The fire was confined to one apartment and damage determined to be extensive. The apartment above the fire apartment received heavy smoke and heat damage.

No injuries were reported in the fire. The American Red Cross is assisting the occupants of two apartments with temporary shelter.

The cause of the fire was determined to be the result of unattended cooking. Three engines, one Tower truck, a safety officer and a Battalion Chief responded  and remained on scene for almost two hours.
