The Pittsylvania County Beautification Committee has designated April 21-26 as its Semi-annual County-wide Clean-up Week. The clean-up is held in conjunction with Earth Day, celebrated annually on April 22 to raise awareness and advocate for environmental protection, and can take place throughout the county on any day and any time during that week.
Participants are asked to select areas and roadways of their choice for litter removal during this time.
The 2025 clean-up culminates on Saturday, April 26, 9 am to noon, at a location within each district, listed below, where bags and vests can be picked up and results can be reported. However, any clean-ups during the week leading up to April 26 can be included in the final tally by contacting the committee representative in the respective district as shown below.
Landfill tipping fees will be waived during the week of April 21-26 for large items such as building materials, tires, tree limbs/cuttings and paints/oils to assist in this effort.
Members of the Beautification Committee are asking individuals, neighborhood groups, school clubs, scouts, civic groups, church groups, etc., to register to participate by contacting their representative on the committee. Students can earn community service hours by participating.
Citizens unable to join in a group clean-up are asked to participate in the “One Bag Challenge” by filling one bag around their property and reporting that to their representative.
More than 150 County residents collected 225 bags of trash covering 50 miles from Hurt to Brosville, Ringgold and Chatham during the fall 2024 clean-up, and the Committee hopes to exceed that amount this year as each bag counts!

Its seven members were appointed by the Board of Supervisors to represent the seven voting districts in the County. Members serve one-year terms. The Committee was originally formed in 2012 but had dissolved a few years later.
