On Thursday, the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors approved the county budget for Fiscal Year 2024-25. The budget of just under $239 million includes a 56-cent real estate tax rate.
The budget and tax rate passed on a 5-2 vote after a vote on a 52-cent real estate tax rate failed by a 3-4 vote.
The 56-cent rate is lower than the current rate of 62-cents and the recommended rate of 59-cents.
However, with property values increasing close to 50% on average, most property owners will still pay more.
According to County Administrator, Stuart Turille, the budget will allow the county to do all of the important things they want to do right now.
The Board of Supervisors also approved the budget for Pittsylvania County Schools of $116 million.
