On Friday the Danville Office of Economic Development and Tourism shared a six month progress video of the White Mill Project.
The White Mill was originally known as Mill No. 8 and was constructed by Dan River Inc. in 1920. It emerged during an era when textile manufacturing was a driving force in many American cities, and Danville was no exception.
The mill was strategically positioned on the south bank of the Dan River, a location chosen for its access to water power and transportation.
The lower floor of the building will become a commercial and retail space, while the upper floors will be turned into 150 modern apartments.
These living spaces include one, two, and three-bedroom units, and notably, 32 apartments were set aside for individuals and families with incomes up to 80% of the local median, according to a press release from the city on January 10th.
