The Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors will consider a 614 acre multi-use development in the Tunstall district at the August 15 meeting. The development, proposed by Southside Investors, would include housing, a grocery store, and a day care.

Many members of the Tunstall District have spoken against the development at previous meetings, citing concerns of heavy traffic and disrupting their current way of life.

The proposed development would be located on or off of State Road 58/Martinsville Highway, State Road 851/Peach Orchard Road, and Sugar Tree Lane in the Tunstall Election District.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Tunstall District Supervisor, Vic Ingram, announced that one of the co-applicants with Southside Investors withdrew his application from the project. According to Ingram, this would eliminate some of the traffic concerns.

“This means that there will not be any entrances onto Martin Road thus eliminating the traffic concerns for that area. Ultimately VDOT will determine the safest routes to access the project,” said Ingram.

The board of supervisors will also vote on an ordinance revision that would allow high density areas in the county at the August 15 meeting.
