Members of the Martinsville Police Department and the Martinsville Sheriff’s Office joined The Guardians of the Flame team to carry the Virginia Special Olympics ‘Flame of Hope’ Torch from the Martinsville City Municipal Building to Danville on Tuesday morning. The team consisted of volunteer officers and deputies from the Martinsville Police Department, the Henry County Sheriff Office, and the Martinsville City Sheriff Office along with area citizens.

Martinsville Police Officer Alberto Herrero completed the entire run from Martinsville to Danville running along Highway 58.  

Each summer, law enforcement officials from across Virginia carry the Flame of Hope on a 1,900-mile journey to the Special Olympics Virginia Summer Game Ceremony in Richmond.
