A man was arrested in Halifax County yesterday after leading police on a chase in a stolen U-Haul. The 911 center received a call at around 11 Wednesday morning for a disturbance at the Dollar General in Volens.
Police were alerted that the suspect had left the store in a U-Haul heading south on L.P. Bailey Memorial Highway. When deputies received word that the U-Haul had been stolen they attempted to stop the suspect who fled at speeds that exceeded 90 mph.
The pursuit continued until the suspect drove down a private driveway in the 1000 block of Lower Liberty Road. According to the Gazette-Virginian, the suspect then got out of the vehicle and fled on foot.
With the assistance of a K-9, deputies apprehended 36-year-old Kevin Barron, of Woodbridge, who was hiding in a hunting tower. Barron was charged with a felony eluding, possession of a stolen vehicle, failure to drive on the right side of the road, driving with a suspended license.
After the arrest deputies also were informed that Barron had multiple outstanding warrants from other jurisdictions including four felony warrants. Barron is being held in the Blue Ridge Regional Jail without bond.
