
A suspect has been arrested for a homicide in Bassett on Tuesday night. The shooting occurred at 6:50 pm at Northview Garden Apartments located at 755 Stultz Rd.
When the Henry County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived, a young male, who was the victim, was found inside an apartment on the complex. Henry County Public Safety EMS arrived and began treating the victim, but he unfortunately died on the scene. The victim was identified as Deshawn Marquis Ross, 22, of Bassett, Virginia.
Investigators quickly began receiving information about the suspect. Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that an argument ensued between the victim, Deshawn Ross, and Jahari Keontae Pritchett. Pritchett produced a firearm and shot Ross before fleeing the scene. Ross suffered at least one gunshot wound to the abdomen.
On Wednesday at 6:45 am, Pritchett, 22, of Martinsville, was taken into custody without incident in the Axton area of Henry County. He has been charged with first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm after having been convicted of a felony. He is currently held in the Henry County Adult Detention Center with no bond.
