The Danville Police Department arrested a robbery suspect on Friday afternoon who fired shots at officers following a brief pursuit. Barry Lewis Swanson, 39, was apprehended in the 200 block of Greenwich Circle following a brief pursuit.

Swanson was spotted by officers on Parker Road and was wanted for a robbery that occurred earlier in the day. After being spotted, Swanson fired shots at officers. One officer returned fire. Neither Swanson nor the officer were struck by gunfire.

Earlier Friday, Swanson was involved in a domestic dispute, and injured one person while committing robbery. Swanson fled from Parker Road and was arrested on Greenwich Circle. He was injured due to a car crash and transported from the scene.

Due to an officer returning fire, the Virginia State Police will be investigating.
