The Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors approved rate increases for water and sewer for the first time since 2013 last night. The mostly minor increases were approved on a 6-1 vote and will help Pittsylvania County Public Works maintain adequate financial reserves according to commissioner Bob Warren.

“We hate to have to make any kind of increases, but in reality if we want to have the services and we want to have opportunities to improve the quality of life of our citizens in areas that may not be benefiting now, we don’t have those opportunities if we don’t keep up with what’s going on,” said Warren.

The County has approximately 3500 customers. Pittsylvania County purchases water from several different area entities, including the Town of Chatham, the Town of Hurt, and the City of Danville.

The majority of County customers will see increases in the range of 3%-4%.  Customers in our Chatham and Hurt areas will see larger increases due to increased bulk water costs

The $10 fee for late payments will not increase.
