A Halifax County man was arrested on Friday after fleeing the scene on horseback. James Wesley Dawson, 36, was eventually found hiding in a closet, according to The Gazette-Virginian.

On Thursday authorities attempted to serve a protective order on Dawson at Dawson Trail in Alton. That’s when Dawson ran from the scene on horseback.

Officers with the South Boston Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle early Friday morning that they believed Dawson was in, however the vehicle refused to stop. The pursuit continued until the vehicle stopped at Turner Trail in Alton and the suspect fled on foot.

On Friday morning authorities obtained a search warrant for a home on Dawson Trail that they believed Dawson was at. During the search they found Dawson hiding in a closet and also found what they believed was heroin and other narcotics.

Dawson has been hit with eight charges including two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm. As well as two counts of a possession of a firearm while under a protective order, one count of breaking and entering, one count of intimidating a witness, one count of obstruction of justice, and one count of petit larceny.

Dawson is being held with no bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
