The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles is urging residents to plan ahead for getting a REAL ID with the deadline less than a year away before it will be required for identification to board an aircraft. The federal government had planned to required the enhanced IDs several years ago but delayed implementation due to the pandemic and other factors. DMV officials say make an appointment now if your license is expiring soon or to make the switch.
