Thousands of additional inmates in state prisons could be released this July under a law passed by the General Assembly 2 years ago. According to 8 News the law allows certain offenders to earn shorter sentences and Department of Corrections officials say over 3,200 additional inmates are to be released between July 1 and August 30. This is in addition to the nearly 1,400 inmates already scheduled for release.
