That big fire Friday night at the Ballou Park Shopping Center in Danville has now been ruled an arson. It destroyed a Roses Express store and damaged three other businesses in the shopping center. Investigators with the Danville Fire Marshal’s Office, along with those of the Virginia State Police, now say it was intentionally started by a juvenile. They also say the juvenile set the fire while his or her mother was shopping, then reported that they smelled smoke to employees. Video surveillance footage and some witnesses helped investigators piece it all together. The juvenile has been taken into custody, but due to age, his or her name is not yet being released. Fortunately, nobody was hurt in the blaze, but it’s going to take some time to rebuild.
