
DANVILLE, Va. – Danville Public Schools are dismissing early because of the storm. Middle schools and RISE Academy will release at 10:55 a.m. Elementary schools will release at 11:35 a.m. High schools and preschools will release at 12:15 p.m. Due to possible power outages, the I.W. Taylor Virtual Academy will also end classes at 12:15 p.m.
The rain began falling in Danville this morning and is expected to continue throughout the day. We could see wind gusts associated with the storm, but a tornado watch for the Danville area ended early this morning.
The National Weather Service says there is still a possibility of severe storms in Danville Wednesday afternoon.
A round of strong to severe storms will be centered along and east of the Lynchburg-to-Danville corridor. The NWS says isolated tornadoes are possible in these storms.
The remnants of Ida brought a confirmed tornado to the New River Valley Tuesday evening, along with seven tornado warnings that were not confirmed.
The confirmed tornado was spotted in Childress in Montgomery County at 6:40 p.m. The same warning included Blacksburg, where there were reports of a funnel cloud near the Virginia Tech campus. No damage was reported.
There is still the potential for flooding in Central Virginia throughout the day Wednesday.
