DANVILLE, Va. – Police are investigating an afternoon shooting that left a 21-year-old Pittsylvania County man dead.

A caller phoned 911 at about 3:15 p.m. about a man lying in the 600 block of Cabell Street with what the caller thought was a gunshot wound.

Police and EMS arrived and found the victim, Jaylan Fitzgerald, dead from gunshot wounds.

Investigators are canvassing the neighborhood and crime scene technicians are collecting evidence from the scene. Police say they “do not have any suspect information to release at this time.”
