DANVILLE, Va. – A large garage fire forced police to close Industrial Ave. Saturday morning.

The Danville Fire Department was called to 902 Jefferson Street at 5:45am. Firefighters arrived within minutes to find  a large one-story garage fully involved with heavy fire venting through the entire roof. A ladder truck was set up and all fire operations remained outside the building. Additional exterior handlines were used and firefighters prevented the flames from spreading to surrounding buildings.

Crews remained on scene for several hours.

The cause of the fire will be determined once the fire is out and the structure is safe to enter.

Industrial Avenue was closed in both directions as firefighters battled the blaze.
