DANVILLE, Va. – The Danville Fire Department responded to a report of a possible house fire in the 300 block of Arnett Boulevard but confined the damage to a piece of furniture.

Crews responded after 1 p.m. Sunday to a report of a structure fire. On the scene, firefighters spotted smoke coming from the house. They got the homeowner outside and put out the fire, then vented smoke from the building.

No structural damage was reported but the smoke left the home uninhabitable. The American Red Cross is helping the resident.

The fire marshal determined that the blaze was caused by discarded smoking materials.
