DANVILLE, Va. – Danville firefighters responded to a pair of calls Wednesday.
At around 11:20 p.m., crews were dispatched to 642 Arnett Blvd., the Colonial Court Apartments, for a reported structure fire. The occupants were out of apartment 1A and there was no damage. The small fire was caused by unattended cooking.
Earlier in the day, crews were called to 1351 Westover Drive after fire spread from a car to a home.
On arrival, heavy fire and smoke was showing from the carport and house.
A downed power line caused issues for crews. Firefighters said an electric line burned into and fell to the ground. The area was blocked off and crews fought the house fire. The car was destroyed while the house suffered heat and smoke damage to the kitchen and attic.
The owner was home at the time and made it out safely.
Three engines, a ladder truck, and 22 firefighters responded and were on the scene for about two-and-a-half hours.
The fire marshal determined that the blaze started in a shorted out battery in a vehicle under the carport.
