FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. – One day after 22,000 gun rights supporters made their voices heard in Richmond, Gov. Ralph Northam renewed his support for gun-control legislation now before the Virginia General Assembly.
During an economic development announcement in Franklin County Tuesday, the Democratic governor said that “over 2 million people voted and you know what, they spoke and they said, ‘We want common-sense gun legislation.’
Asked about the huge show of opposition to the proposed gun laws, Northam said that “we can agree to disagree, but at the end of the day we need to sit down and do what’s in the best interests of Virginia.”
He called the bills “common sense” legislation and insisted they do not violate the 2nd Amendment.
