DANVILLE, Va. – A kitchen fire forced a Danville family of four from their home Sunday night.
Firefighters were called to 117 Spring Avenue just after 6:00 Sunday evening. Heavy smoke and fire were showing from windows and a door of the small home. The fire was put out quickly but the frame house was heavily damaged. The value of the house and contents was estimated at just under $50,000.
Two adults and two children were outside when crews arrived and will not be able to return to the house until the damage has been repaired.
The fire started in some unattended cooking.
Three engines and a ladder truck responded and firefighters were on the scene for almost two hours.
The family is receiving help from the Red Cross.
