MEBANE, N.C. – A father and his bedridden daughter both died when fire raced through their mobile home in Mebane, North Carolina Sunday night.
The fire was reported by a neighbor about 8:15 p.m. at a home around the 6200 block of N.C. Highway 70 West.
Mebane Fire Chief Bob Lewis said 55-year-old William Alan Gourley and his daughter, 30-year-old Betsy Gourley, died in the fire. Their bodies were located in the front bedroom.
According to Lewis, Betsy Gourley was disabled and bedridden. A family member said the father was trying to rescue his daughter after the fire started on the front porch.
The Orange County Fire Marshal is working to determine a cause for the fatal fire.
