DANVILLE, Va. – Schools in Danville and Pittsylvania County will benefit from security upgrades announced by Gov. Ralph Northam on Thursday.

Danville is getting more than $16,600 for Grove Park Preschool, while the governor has earmarked and $160,000 for improvements at Chatham, Gretna and Kentuck elementary schools in Pittsylvania County.

The grants total $6 million and will be distributed to 340 schools in 70 school divisions across Virginia.

The money will be used for video monitoring systems, voice and video internal communications systems, mass notification systems, visitor-identification systems, access control systems, two-way radios, security vestibules and other security upgrades designed to protect students, teachers and faculty.
