ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. – A Madison man is behind bars after Rockingham County authorities say he choked and stabbed a woman.

The incident happened last Thursday.

Darrin Eugene Whitaker was arrested by Greensboro Police and is being held in the Guilford County Jail awaiting his transfer to the Rockingham County Detention facility.

He is charged with assault on a female, felonious assault by strangulation and assault inflicting serious injury.

Whitaker is accused of hitting a female in the head, strangling her and stabbing her in the stomach. The woman was taken to an area hospital and is expected to survive.
