DANVILLE, Va. – Danville Police officers took to the streets Tuesday. They weren’t walking a beat, but rather going door-to-door in a troubled neighborhood that was the site of an unsolved homicide over the weekend.
The community walk was dubbed HEART, an acronym for Heal and Engage after Recent Trauma.
A 17-year-old died of gunshot wounds in the 700 block of Paxton Street around 9:00 Friday night. It was the seventh homicide of the year and the third on that block of Paxton in the past three years.
Police are following several leads in the murder, which appears to have been a targeted incident.
