PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. – Xavier Tyler Slayton is charged with breaking and entering with the intent to commit murder after being shot during a break-in at a relative’s home Saturday morning.
Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 700 block of Cedar Forest Road in the Long Island Community shortly before 11:00 a.m. and found the 25-year-old Slayton suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to Lynchburg General Hospital, where he underwent surgery Saturday afternoon. Investigators say Slayton suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Slayton was shot by a 17-year-old relative. Charges have not been filed against the juvenile.
Authorities believe that Slayton had broken into his mother’s home and was shot by a 17-year-old relative. The juvenile was still at the scene but has not been charged at this point in the investigation. The name of the juvenile is being withheld.
If convicted of the charge, Slayton faces a prison sentence of not less than 5 years but not more than 20 years and a fine up to $100,000.
