(Pittsylvania County, Va.) — A husband and wife were found dead in their Axton home Monday morning and a firearm was located near the bodies. Investigators say there were no signs of a forced entry at the residence.
The Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office received a call around 1:00 Monday morning requesting a well-being check on the couple at their home in the 17,000 block of Callands Road in Axton. When no one answered a knock at the front door, deputies forced their way inside and found the bodies of a man and a woman. A gun was located nearby.
Investigators say the two were married but have not released their names. Authorities believe their were alone in the home when the deaths occurred.
The bodies have been sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Roanoke for autopsies. Authorities say they are working now to piece together “the circumstances of (Sunday) evening and early (Monday) morning.”
