(Appomattox, VA) – One person was killed when a Norfolk Southern train collided with a vehicle around 10:30 Wednesday Morning.  65-year-old Karen Sauers was crossing in front of the train and her Ford Fusion was struck on the driver’s side and shoved off the tracks.   CPR was performed at the scene but Sauers never recovered.

The train was the Norfolk Southern Office train used by executives for touring rail line and no one on board was injured in the crash.  Authorities said Sauers was at fault in the incident and no charges will be pending filed against the train’s conductor.  Virginia State Police and Norfolk Southern are investigating the incident.
