(South Boston, Va.) — A new technology hub will bring a $5 million investment and the promise of new jobs to the town of South Boston.
Mid-Atlantic Broadband Communities Corporation (MBC) and Microsoft announced plans this week to build a new technology center in South Boston to be called the SOVA Innovation Hub. The facility will be located on an empty lot that once housed a tobacco warehouse that burned to the ground. It will be the first new commercial facility to be constructed in the downtown district in 40 years
Groundbreaking is slated for July or August, with a completion date of July 2020.
MBC says the facility will meet their need for office space. Microsoft, through its TechSpark Initiative, will also use the space to encourage economic growth in the region. Representatives with local non-profits will also have the chance to take courses on digital skills education and workforce training.
