(Danville, Va.) – Shannie’s Bar and Grill on West Main Street was destroyed in an early morning fire.

Danville firefighters responded to the two-alarm blaze around 1:30 Wednesday morning. Engine 4 was the first on the scene and firefighters found heavy smoke and flames throughout the building, which is located at 1909 West Main.

The former Back Door Deli was consumed by flames but firefighters contained the conflagration and kept flames from spreading to nearby buildings. West Main Street was closed temporarily as crews worked to bring the fire under control.

Assistant Chief Tim Duffer said the roof caved in and described the building as a total loss.

The fire’s cause remains under investigation.
