(Danville, Va.) — Danville Police made five arrests after responding to an Easter morning party that ended with gunfire in the 300 block of Virginia Ave.

Police responded about 2 a.m. Sunday and found about 50-60 partygoers spilling into the street. One woman was unconscious on the sidewalk. As the officer knelt down to help the woman, someone ran up and struck the officer, then tried to run. Kashawnda Richardson, of Danville, was arrested for assaulting a law enforcement officer.

The officer was not injured seriously and police say the woman on the ground was intoxicated. Others arrested include 21-year-old Tashera Thomas, charged with public intoxication, and 38-year-old James Brandon, who lived in the home, charged with obstruction of justice. The three were released on bond. Another man was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

Numerous shots were fired into the air in the same area Monday night but police do not know if the incidents are related. No arrests have been made in that incident.
