(Danville, Va.) — A Danville teenager will serve 50 years in prison for two murders that happened within two days of each other.

Kurtyus Latrell Hairston is now 18 but was 17 at the time of the crimes. He entered guilty pleas in March to the murders of Charlie Williams and Patrick Gunn and was sentenced Monday in Danville Circuit Court.

Both Gunn and Williams were found shot to death in their cars in August of last year. Gunn was shot on August 17 in the 700 block of Paxton St. Williams was asleep in his car on Henry Street when Hairston woke him up and shot him a day earlier.

Hairston pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and firearms charges. The judge sentenced Hairston to life in prison for first-degree murder, but suspended 25 years. Hairston was also sentenced to 40 years for second-degree murder with 23 years suspended, plus a total of eight years on firearms charges.
