(Blacksburg, Va.) – The Storm Prediction Center of the National Weather Service now has Danville under a “moderate” risk for severe thunderstorms this afternoon. That’s one level below the highest risk, “severe.”

There is a possibility of severe thunderstorm activity accompanied by flooding, damaging winds and even a tornado.

The Weather Service says a cold front is approaching Southside, bringing with it the possibility of severe thunderstorms this afternoon.

The rain is expected to continue at night and the region could experience heavy downpours.
