(Pittsylvania County, Va.) — In a first for the department, Gretna firefighters rescued a pair of horses that had wandered into a swamp and got stuck in the mud.
A Facebook post from Gretna Fire and Rescue states that volunteers from throughout Pittsylvania County helped free the horses from mud that threatened the lives of both animals. The two horses wandered out into a swamp on the edge of a pond Sunday and were mired in mud for several hours.
Fire crews said both horses appeared to be unharmed and are doing well.
