(Danville, Va.) — Danville Police Lt .Richard Chivvis said there was “a gang nexus” to Sunday’s homicide in the 700 block of Arnett Blvd.
Chivvis said the victim “was known to law enforcement,” but there is no evidence he was involved in any criminal activity when he was gunned down in front of 741 Arnett Blvd. at 3:50 Sunday afternoon.
Chivvis said a vehicle pulled up with several individuals inside and between 10-to-15 shots were fired. The victim died of multiple gunshot wounds. He said “it is very likely the offenders targeted this victim.”
While police were investigating the fatal shooting, a report of shots fired in the 300 block of Juless Street was received. Lt. Chivvis said it appears this incident was in retaliation for the homicide. No one was injured but police are seeking a suspect who faces charges of shooting into an occupied dwelling. He is identified as 19-year-old O’Bryan Daquan King. He is not a suspect in the homicide.
The murder victim has been identified by family members as Hakeem King.
