(Pittsylvania County, Va.) — Jason Scott Rigney will stand trial for murder in Pittsylvania County Circuit Court next month.
The 43-year-old entered a not-guilty pleas Monday for the first-degree murder of Heather Matherly. He is also charged with use of a firearm in a felony.
Matherly’s body was discovered last September at her home in the Brosville community. Rigney was arrested four days later at the Executive Inn Motel on West Main Street in Danville. He is being held in the Pittsylvania County Jail under no bond.
Matherly was 30 and the mother of three children.
Court records indicate Rigney confessed to the murder in a phone conversation with his sister.
