(Martinsville, Va.) – Seventeen years after Jennifer Short and her parents were murdered, their Martinsville home has been destroyed by fire.
Mary and Michael Short were both shot in the head by an unknown intruder in August of 2002. Their daughter, Jennifer, was abducted from the home. She also died of a gunshot wound to the head but her remains weren’t found until weeks later later in a creek in rural North Carolina.
The brick rancher the three called home in the Oak Level community was reduced to rubble in an early morning fire Wednesday. The house, which was unoccupied, was fully involved when firefighters reached the scene about 4 a.m.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Henry County fire marshal.
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the triple homicide.
