(Altavista, Va.) – A teenager was struck and seriously injured near Altavista Thursday afternoon.

It happened in the southbound lanes of Route 29 at Wards Road and Marysville Road. According to investigators, an 18-year-old was crossing the road when he was struck by a small pickup truck. The impact sent the teen airborne.

The pedestrian was taken by helicopter to Carilion Roanoke Memorial and was last listed in in serious condition. The driver was not injured.
