(Richmond, Va.) — A bill that would have increased the minimum wage from $7.25 to $15 in the Virginia has died in the state Senate.

The legislation was killed following a 21-to-19 vote on Monday. Had the bill passed, Virginia’s minimum wage would have increased incrementally to $10 on July first, then to $13 an hour in 2020 and finally to $15 an hour in 2021.

Southside State Sen. Bill Stanley was among those voting against the legislation.
