(Pittsylvania County, Va.) – Court filings involving a couple found dead in their home over the weekend show a history of abuse by the husband.

Investigators believe Jason Davis shot and killed his wife, Twana, and their 12-year-old son at the couple’s home on Shula Drive Friday night.

According to court records, the abuse dates back more than a decade. Jason Davis was charged in 2007 with assaulting his wife. She took out a protective order against him in December of 2007 but it expired two years later.

According to the criminal complaint, Twana Davis said her husband got upset with her and threw a phone and glass at her. Several days later, she said Jason threatened her with a gun and burned some of her clothing.

A later arrest warrant says her husband punched her, choked her on two occasions, threw her across their bedroom and threatened to kill her with a knife.
