(Halifax County, Va.) – A Halifax County man was killed in a weekend accident.

Virginia State Police identify the victim as 58-year-old Douglas L. Oakes of Nathalie.

Trooper J.A. Wilmouth investigated the crash, which happened about 10:45 Saturday morning on Route 501, south of Route 603.

A 1994 Dodge Dakota was traveling along 501 when it ran off the right side of the highway, struck a pole, and overturned. Oakes died at the scene. State Police say he was wearing a seat belt.

The crash remains under investigation.
