(Danville, Va.) — Despite the wet, dreary weather, Danville residents headed to the polls in large numbers Tuesday.

Turnout was steady at Danville’s largest precinct, Ward 4, the Ballou Park Nature Center this afternoon. Danville Registrar Peggy Petty said Ballou Park “has been rolling all day.”

At 4:15 p.m., 945 voters — or 50% — had cast ballots at Coates School. Schoolfield was at 34% with 782 voters, while 41% had voted at the American Legion Post at 3 p.m. Johnson School was at 34%, and Park Avenue reported 40% at 3 p.m.

Petty is predicting that between 45-50 percent of the city’s registered voters, or about 14,000, will head to the polls before 7:00 tonight.
