(Pittsylvania County, Va.) — Virginia State Police say a 23-year-old Danville woman died in a crash in the northern end of Pittsylvania County.

Virginia State Police Trooper C.S. Simpkins responded to the accident on just north of Route 642 just before 1:45 Wednesday afternoon.

A 2008 Pontiac Torrent was traveling north on Route 29 when it ran off the right side of the highway, struck the guardrail and then overturned.

The driver, Shantique L. Reid, 23, of Danville, was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle. She died at the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
